The Wireless Connection
Introduction

5G capable phones are rare right now. In fact, there are only a few, and they're usable in just a few locations around the world.

A 5G smartphone is only usable at its fullest potential when connected to a 5G network. So, as this newest mobile network slowly rolls out around the world, 5G phones will begin to become available for carriers like Verizon, AT&T, T-Mobile, Sprint, etc.

Below are all the ones we know about right now, but some are only prototypes and don't reflect the company's final 5G-enabled product. Expect changes throughout 2019 and beyond as more news comes out about 5G.

Why should you care when 5G phones are available? 5G far outperforms 4G and is poised to enable several industry transformations.

Sony Xperia 5G Prototype

Sony Xperia 5G Prototype

Pocket-lint.com

The Sony Xperia 5G prototype, also known as AG-1, most likely runs on Qualcomm's Snapdragon 855 Mobile Platform with the X50 5G modem. It has a 21:9 aspect ratio like the Xperia 1, and a CinemaWide OLED screen.

However, according to Sony's senior manager Adam Marsh, this 5G device is used in testing only and isn't a reflection of a real commercial product. The phone as it's seen above will likely look different when Sony releases a true 5G phone, but there's no doubt that it will run on Qualcomm's 5G platform.

As of now, that's really all we know about this 5G phone from Sony.

Release date: Unknown

Price: Likely $1,500 USD or more considering the Xperia 1 will launch for around $1,100 USD
