30-inch displays are still considered the realm of professional displays but this is changing with a new generation of lower cost ultra-wide displays. The number of options is still very limited and the prices are generally very high compared to slightly smaller displays. Of course, they still offer some outstanding image quality and high resolution that is hard to beat especially for serious graphics work. Find out which I think are currently the best available.

With improving technology, more and more affordable large screen displays are available. The Acer B326HUL is a great example of this. This large 32-inch display offers a very respectable 2560x1440 resolution that offers great detail levels compared to smaller monitors without costing too much. This is probably because it uses a VA technology panel that offers a nice compromise between IPS and TN panels. It is faster than a IPS panel but features better viewing angles and color than TN. Connectors include DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI. It also features a built-in USB 3.0 hub. The stand offers tilt, swivel and height adjustments.

Best Overall - Dell UltraSharp U3017 30-inch

Dell's UltraSharp series is well known for their solid performance and excellent range of connectors and the U3017 continues this tradition. The 30-inch display offers some excellent color capabilities with 99 percent coverage of sRGB and AdobeRGB gamuts. In addition, Dell color calibrates each display at the factory for both of these color profiles for excellent out of the box color. Dell has reduced the number of video input but it still offers DisplayPort, mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI. In addition to this, it now features a four port USB hub. The stand supports height, swivel and tilt adjustments.

Best Cinema Display - LG Electronics 34UC87M-B 34-inch

Cinema style displays differ from most other monitors because they offer a much wider screen. The LG display offers an incredible 3440x1440 native resolution for a 21:9 aspect ratio used by many wide-screen movies. It uses IPS technology for some great viewing angles and colors. The screen is also curved slightly to give a more cinematic feel. It offers a huge number of connectors including two HDMI 2.0, two Thunderbolt, and DisplayPort. It even features a two port USB 3.0 built into the system. There are two 7 watt stereo speakers built into it for some better than average audio but most people would probably use external speakers. The stand does feature height, tilt and swivel adjustments but no pivot for such a wide screen.

Best 4K Display - Acer B6 B326HK 32-inch

4K Displays are relatively new and prohibitively expensive for many people but they offer the highest display resolution possible. The Acer B6 B326HK is a surprisingly offering though with a price of just $900 to $1000 making it extremely affordable. It features the full 3830x2160 resolution for 4K and even uses IPS screen technology for wide viewing angles and very good color. Brightness is very high at 350cd/m^2 which many people will probably turn down. Connectors include HDMI, DisplayPort, mini-DisplayPort, and DVI. It should be noted to get the highest refresh rates with 4K resolutions, you will need to use the DisplayPort connectors. There is a pair of two-watt speakers built into the display along with a four port USB 3.0 hub. The stand offers height, swivel and tilt adjustments.

Best Graphics - NEC PA322UHD-BK-2 32-inch

This monitor is designed for the serious graphics professional in mind. Many of the screens above do an excellent job with color but they fall somewhat short of what the NEC PA322UHD can and they are certainly much more affordable. Color gamut support is very wide with 99.2% coverage of the AdobeRGB and full coverage of sRGB thanks to the IGZO-based display panel and 14-bit color processing. It is also possible to get some models that include the SpectreView colorimeter for adjusting the color to be as best as possible. It features support for the full 4K or UHD resolutions and good 350 nit brightness. Connectors include two DisplayPort v1.2, one HDMI 2.0, four HDMI 1.4 and two DVI-D. Connectors include two DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI-D. It does feature a built-in USB 3.0 hub as well. The best part is that the stand fully supports height, swivel, tilt and pivot adjustments.
