30-inch displays are still considered the realm of professional displays but this is changing with a new generation of lower cost ultra-wide displays. The number of options is still very limited and the prices are generally very high compared to slightly smaller displays. Of course, they still offer some outstanding image quality and high resolution that is hard to beat especially for serious graphics work. Find out which I think are currently the best available.

Our Top Picks

Best Value: Acer B326HUL 32-inch

With improving technology, more and more affordable large screen displays are available. The Acer B326HUL is a great example of this. This large 32-inch display offers a very respectable 2560x1440 resolution that offers great detail levels compared to smaller monitors without costing too much. This is probably because it uses a VA technology panel that offers a nice compromise between IPS and TN panels. It is faster than a IPS panel but features better viewing angles and color than TN. Connectors include DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI. It also features a built-in USB 3.0 hub. The stand offers tilt, swivel and height adjustments.

Dell's UltraSharp series is well known for their solid performance and excellent range of connectors and the U3017 continues this tradition. In addition, Dell color calibrates each display at the factory for both of these color profiles for excellent out of the box color. Dell has reduced the number of video input but it still offers DisplayPort, mini-DisplayPort, HDMI, and DVI. In addition to this, it now features a four port USB hub. The stand supports height, swivel and tilt adjustments.

Best Cinema Display: Dell UltraSharp U3415W

In today’s display market, computer monitors have gotten so immersive and so amazingly sharp that you sometimes forget that there are different levels to that immersiveness. And if you’re looking for a monitor that’s meant for watching films and video, this curved 34-inch monitor from Dell is going to check off a lot of boxes.

First, the curved shape will ensure ideal viewing angles for the user sitting straight on as there is far less color misrepresentation on the edges. The resolution is right up there at 3440 x 1440 pixels, all presented at a 60Hz rate. There’s dynamic contrast ratio capabilities of 2MM: 1, and an ultra-wide aspect ratio of 21:9. What that translates to is an amazing realization of color and graphics, whether you’re watching a film, playing video games, or viewing multiple design windows during your workflow.

The included stand is fully adjustable both on the height and angle front, and it’ll look pretty good on your desk with a solid metal feel. There’s plenty of connectivity here with four USB ports and HDMI ports to both connect in your computer and hook up multiple monitors. Overall, it’s a fitting monitor for the cinema-minded user.
