Ethernet Network Switches

Ethernet switches can be used on home networks to connect computers via Ethernet cables. Most home network routers also contain built-in switches, but for those people who don't have or want to use a router, these network switches can also be purchased separately. Netgear FS605

Those who like the form factor of Netgear's home networking products will also be interested in the FS605. The FS605 supports up to 5 connected devices. Each connection is made at either 10 Mbps or 100 Mbps full duplex speed determined automatically according to the capability of each device connected (a feature called autosensing). Netgear provides a 3-year warranty for this product.

Linksys EZXS55W

This Linksys model is another cost-effective option for home networks. It supports up to 5 devices. Each connection to this Ethernet switch is made at 10/100 Mbps with autosensing. The EZXS55W is an especially compact unit, less than 5 inches (110 mm) wide and less than 1.5 inches (32 mm) tall.

D-Link originally offered a 5-year warranty with their DSS-5+ Ethernet switch, but this product has since been discontinued. Although slightly larger than the competing Linksys model, the DSS-5+ also supports 5 device connections and 10/100 Mbps autosensing. More »
