If you’re looking for a reliable USB-C cable that’s widely compatible with Android tablets and Samsung smartphones and won’t break the bank, check out the AUKEY 90-Degree USB-C Cable. It’s durable, travels well, and features a few design details that distinguish it from bargain options.

Design and Durability: Stylish and sturdy

We don’t necessarily think of charging cables as attractive, but it’s fair to say that the AUKEY 90-Degree USB-C Cable is a little stylish. This product is sold in a two-pack with both bright red and black 3.3-feet cables made of hefty braided nylon. The cable feels sturdy and bends with ease without allowing too much flex.

It’s fair to say that the AUKEY 90-Degree USB-C Cable is a little stylish.

The stiffness is a good thing, but it can make wrapping up the cord slightly awkward. The velcro cable organizer helps with this, though. It’s this touch along with the reversible USB-C heads that keeps use of charging devices easy and organized. Another thoughtful design touch is that both the USB-A and USB-C heads are positioned at 90-degree angles. This orientation prevents cord tangling and allows for easy use of the device you’re charging.

Another thoughtful design touch is that both the USB-A and USB-C heads are positioned at 90-degree angles.

One possible drawback of the 90-degree angle design is that some customers have reported that the USB-C heads are much too large for some phone cases. If you use a bigger phone case, this may not be the right charging cord for your needs.

Charging Speed: Consistent and fast

The manufacturer makes no specific claim about charging times, but this accessory is compatible with fast-charge devices that support Samsung Adaptive Fast Charging or Qualcomm Quick Charge. I couldn’t confirm that with the Google Nexus 5 I used for testing, but using this cord with the Anker PowerPort 6 regular 5-volt/2.4-amp USB port yielded consistently rapid results. I charged a Nexus 5 four times with this cable and logged a consistently speedy charging time of 1.5 hours.

Price: Very reasonable considering the quality

This product comes in a two-pack that sells for about $15 at its most expensive. That’s quite a steal since these cords are well made and come from a brand that’s well known in the charging cable market. Of course, if you’re an iPhone user, this probably isn’t worth the money, since you’ll only get use out of it with an iPad Pro. But if you’re an Android or non-Apple mobile device user, this is worth considering.

AUKEY 90 Degree USB-C Cable vs. McDodo Type C USB 90-Degree Cable

The McDodo Type C USB 90-Degree Cable (on Amazon) is more expensive—ranging from $18-$20 depending on cord length, which goes up to 10 feet—but it also offers a similar 90-degree design that makes using a device while charging it hassle-free. The McDodo presents the same challenge for iOS device users since only new MacBook and iPad models are compatible. The product warranty is also less extensive than the AUKEY, at only 12 months. But the McDodo USB-C cable matches the AUKEY in durability and offers an LED detail and a reversible USB design for even more charging convenience.

Final Verdict

A good-looking and appealing option for non-Apple users.

The AUKEY 90-Degree USB-C Cable is well-designed with hardy materials and details that give it a much more expensive feel than its modest price tag. It’s great for Android users with multiple devices compatible with the USB-C charging protocol, but Apple users will be limited and will want to look elsewhere for the right Lightning cables.
