Full Review of ASTRA32, a Free System Information Tool for Windows

ASTRA32 is a free system information tool for Windows. It scans through a wide range of internal and external hardware components and can even be launched from a portable device.

While ASTRA32 is technically a demo of the full version, it still works very well and has only a few limitations. 

ASTRA32 Basics

There are nine section in ASTRA32 to show information regarding the processor, motherboard, memory, storage devices, video card and monitors, operating system, network, and ports.

ASTRA32 is compatible with 32-bit and 64-bit versions of Windows 8, 7, Vista, and XP. It also supports Windows Server 2008/2003 and Windows 2000.

ASTRA32 Pros & Cons

Though ASTRA32 may be thorough, it still has a few drawbacks.

  • Shows detailed information
  • No installation necessary


  • Works as a demo version (but doesn't expire)
  • Serial numbers and MAC addresses are truncated
  • Unable to copy out any information
  • Can't save detailed reports
  • Occasionally shows nag screens to purchase the full version
  • Doesn't work in Windows 10

My Thoughts on ASTRA32

I like that although ASTRA32 functions as a demo program only, you can still use it to find a huge amount of detail on various hardware devices.

It's unfortunate you can't use ASTRA32 to create detailed reports or even to copy out useful information from the program window, but short of this issue and the fact that you can't see serial numbers, I still find it to be highly useful as a system information program.

Every program like ASTRA32 should be available in portable form, so it's great that you can use it on a flash drive without having to install anything.

What ASTRA32 Identifies

  • All the basic details of the motherboard, including the vendor, model number, BIOS date and chipset, as well as features BIOS supports, such as certain boot options, PnP, and ACPI
  • Very detailed processor information, such as the temperature, current speed, processor family, CPUID, brand ID, cache information, FSB clock speed, max speed, voltage, and a list of its supported instruction sets
  • Information on the installed memory modules is included in ASTRA32, as well as whether there's room to install more memory; some examples are its manufacturer, number of ranks/banks, whether error checking is supported, part number, manufacture date, revision code, SPD revision, max temperature, SDRAM width, data width, refresh rate, and CAS latency
  • Tons of detail on internal and external hard drives and optical drives; see the HDD model, size, interface type (like SATA), geometry, driver version and date, location on the motherboard, buffer size, temperature, security erase time, SATA drive speed, and more; if S.M.A.R.T. is supported, more detail is shown, like the number of uncorrectable sectors, the seek error rate, and the spin-up time to name a few
  • Printer information, such as the name, port, whether it's the default printer, and the data type (like RAW)
  • Lists all the ports, their connector type (on-board IDE, DB-25 pin female, etc.), and internal designator (keyboard, PS/2 mouse, USB, LPT1, etc.)
  • Detects the remaining life on SSDs
  • See the name of the computer and user, use role, and domain name; also view the interfaces and their vendor, subsystem ID, link speed, and MTU size, as well as the DHCP server, IP address, subnet mask, default gateway, and DNS servers
  • Lists any connected monitor to display its model and manufacturer, EDID version, manufacture date, horizontal and vertical size and frequency, display type, input signal (like analog), DPMS features, supported resolutions, and driver information
  • Video card details, such as the vendor, memory size, driver information, PCIe capabilities (version, link speed, width, etc.), and BIOS version and date; also see information regarding the current core clock, memory clock, and shader clock speed
  • Software information is also shown, like the operating system version, registered owner, and system up time, as well as a list of all installed software and hotfixes
