Introduction

  • Award-winning writer, editor, and social media strategist with over 10 years of experience in the communications field. Featured in The Intercept, Orange County Register, The Daily Titan, and more.
  • Bachelor of Arts in Communications/Print Journalism (2017)
  • Master of Science in Communications/Journalism Innovation (2020)

Experience

Ashlyn completed a minor in English and majored in Communications, with a print journalism focus at CSUF. She went back to school and received an M.S. in Journalism Innovation from Syracuse University.

She worked on the editorial staff as Opinion Assistant Editor for The Daily Titan, a daily student-run newspaper. She contributed to all sections of the paper from opinion, features, art and entertainment, news, breaking news, and social media such as live-tweeting and early live streaming on Periscope through Twitter.

Ashlyn investigated the growing problem of homelessness, such as the lack of affordable housing in Orange County, since 2017. Investigative reporting led to the skills to process difficult documents and organize all relevant information in excel sheets. Now, she finds joy in tracking trends via various data sources and writing about the latest and greatest in consumer tech.

Ash grew up around technology, using it as a digital native from a young age. She is familiar with macOS, Windows, various gaming and streaming technologies, and has some experience in coding, as well.

With a focus on strategic innovation and multimedia reporting, Ashlyn also believes in a world that combats climate change and poverty with the help of technology.

Ashlyn is a member of the Society of Professional Journalists, the National Association of Hispanic Journalists, and CCNMA: the Latino Journalists of California. She won awards and accolades from the Los Angeles Press Club and the California College Media Association for her work.

My Gear

I work with a 13-inch, 2020 MacBook Pro on macOS Monterey and an iPad Pro 10.5-inch for mostly drawing. You can find me shuffling between Google Docs, Trello, and Slack, along with various iOS apps on my iPhone 12 Pro. I also rock an Apple Watch Series 3 for exercising & Movo lavalier microphones for interviews.

My second portable screen for my laptop hails from startup company Mobile Pixels. When I'm not testing audience engagement tactics on her phone, I take photos with a Nikon D3500 DSLR.

WordPress and Adobe Creative Cloud are my best friends, especially Premiere Pro. I also love playing Xbox, especially Grand Theft Auto V.

Education

Ashlyn received her first degree in Print Journalism and a minor in English from California State University, Fullerton in Orange County. For her Master’s degree, she attended the Newhouse School graduate program from Syracuse University in Syracuse, New York. She intends to go to USC next for their doctorate program in communications.
