Apple’s M1 iPad Pro Can Download Updates Over 5G

It can also make higher-quality FaceTime calls

The M1 iPad Pro is officially out, and Apple has now confirmed that both the 12.9-inch and the 11-inch 2021 iPad Pro can download software updates over 5G connections.

New support pages released by Apple have revealed that the 5G-enabled M1 iPad Pro will allow users to do more on their 5G connection. According to 9To5Mac, the 5G M1 iPad Pro will allow more data usage over 5G than on other cellular connections to download software updates, watch higher-definition content on Apple TV, and more.

Based on the information on the support pages, users will be able to better control how apps and their operating system utilize their cellular connections. The 2021 iPad Pro will allow for software updates and more extended data usage by third-party apps on some unlimited data plans, by default depending on your plan and carrier. Users will be able to tweak this to both a Standard and Low Data mode.

In Standard, the iPad will utilize 5G connections for iPadOS updates and background tasks, while limiting video and FaceTime to standard quality settings. Low Data Mode, on the other hand, will reduce Wi-Fi and cellular data usage by pausing those updates and background tasks. This should give users more control over how their iPad is utilizing their 5G connection.

Additionally, the M1 iPad Pro also will allow users to choose between several cellular data options to control which networks they connect to. These include 5G Auto, which enables a Smart Data mode that automatically switches 5G off in favor of LTE when 5G isn’t providing a noticeably better experience. 5G On will simply keep 5G connected whenever it is available and may reduce battery life. Alternatively, users can switch to LTE only, which only uses the LTE network, even when 5G is available.

Previously, many tablets, smart devices, and even phones haven’t allowed for the use of cellular connections to download important updates.
