America's Army 2: Special Forces, also known simply as America's Army Special Forces is a multiplayer tactical first-person shooter produced by the United States Army as both a recruitment and training tool. In the game, players take on the role of a U.S. Army soldier as they fight in combat situations where teamwork and official U.S. Army tactics are essential in order to be successful in the game. This second edition of the game was released in November 2003 under the title America's Army: Special Forces and was the follow up to the very successful America's Army. The title was geared towards the Special Forces branches of the military in order to help increase the enlistment of potential soldiers for real-world operations. At the time of its release, this would have primarily been operations in Iraq and Afghanistan.

In America's Army 2.0 players will take part in individual and team training missions in hopes of joining the ranks of the Green Beret and other special units such as the 82nd Airborne Division and the 75th Ranger Regiment, both of which will be available roles in multiplayer games once earned. Additional roles available include Weapons Specialists, Intelligence, Engineer, Communications and Combat Medic. Earning honor points also opens up new servers and missions. The equipment and weaponry that are used by U.S. Army forces such as the M4 Carbine, AT4 anti-tank rocket, demolition munitions and many more are also found in America's Army 2.

America's Army 2: Special Forces, along with the other games in America's Army series have been completely free to download, install and play as they are fully funded by the government. The game is built using the Unreal game engine and features high-quality graphics and animation for the time it was released. This helped fuel its success as retail games costing $40-50 contained the same or even lower quality graphics. America's Army Special Forces include both single player and multiplayer game modes with two different classes in the multiplayer mode, the U.S. Army soldier or Indigenous Forces class.

The Game Is Old Now but Still Worth Playing

While the game is more than 15 years old, it is possible to find active players however the game can only be found on third-party sites in varying versions of the release. The U.S. Army has since moved on from the 2.0 branch of the game and only provides downloads to America's Army 3 and the latest version titled America's Army: Proving Grounds. (Available on Steam) The U.S. Army also published a version of America's Army 2 for the original Xbox and PlayStation 2 consoles called America's Army: Rise of a Soldier.
