Connect your Yahoo Mail account to Outlook to manage your emails

Centralize all your email accounts into Microsoft Outlook and make it easier to find your messages in one place. If you have a Yahoo Mail account, here's how to set up Outlook to access your email on Yahoo.

Before You Start, Prepare Your Yahoo Account

Before Outlook can access your Yahoo account, set up your Yahoo account so that it allows Outlook to connect. This initial step depends on whether you have two-step verification enabled on your Yahoo account or not.

Two-Step Verification Enabled? Generate an App Password

If your Yahoo account is secured with two-step verification, generate a Yahoo Mail app password. It's a simple process, and you'll use this app password in place of your Yahoo Mail sign-in password when you configure Outlook.

No Two-Step Verification?

If you don't use two-step verification to secure your Yahoo Mail account (and you don't want to enable it), set your account to allow email clients to access it using your Yahoo account sign-in password.

  1. Log into your Yahoo Mail account.

  2. In the upper right of the web page, select your profile name and choose Account Info.

  3. Select Account Security.

  4. Turn on the Allow apps that use less secure sign in toggle (it turns blue when switched to the On position).

You may need to complete a reCAPTCHA process before the switch activates to verify that you aren't a robot.

  5. Your Yahoo Mail account will now accept sign-ins from Outlook. To turn this feature off, follow steps 1 through 3, then turn off the Allow apps that use less secure sign in toggle.

Consider enabling two-step verification on your Yahoo account. It provides an extra layer of security to protect your account from unauthorized access.
