If you have a Yahoo Mail account, here's how to add Yahoo email to Outlook. Instructions in this article apply to Outlook for Microsoft 365, Outlook 2019, Outlook 2016, Outlook 2013, and Outlook 2010. Lifewire / Julie Bang Before You Start, Prepare Your Yahoo Account Before Outlook can access your Yahoo account, set up your Yahoo account so that it allows Outlook to connect. This initial step depends on whether you have two-step verification enabled on your Yahoo account or not. Two-Step Verification Enabled? Generate an App Password If your Yahoo account is secured with two-step verification, generate a Yahoo Mail app password. It's a simple process, and you'll use this app password in place of your Yahoo Mail sign-in password when you configure Outlook. No Two-Step Verification? If you don't use two-step verification to secure your Yahoo Mail account (and you don't want to enable it), set your account to allow email clients to access it using your Yahoo account sign-in password. Log in to your Yahoo Mail account. In the upper-right corner of the web page, select your profile name and then choose Account Info. Select Account Security. Select Generate app password. Select the version of Outlook you want to use from the menu. You can use Outlook iOS, Outlook Android, or Outlook Desktop. Select Generate. A window appears with the password key and instructions for using it. Consider enabling two-step verification on your Yahoo account. It provides an extra layer of security to protect your account from unauthorized access. Set up Yahoo Mail in Microsoft 365, Outlook 2019, and Outlook 2016 Adding your Yahoo Mail account to Outlook for Microsoft 365, Outlook 2019, and Outlook 2016 takes just a few steps. Go to the File tab. Select Info, then select Add Account. Enter your Yahoo Mail address, and then select Connect. Enter your app password. If your Yahoo account uses two-step verification, enter the app password you generated, not your Yahoo account sign-in password. Select Connect. Your Yahoo Mail account is added to Outlook. Set up Yahoo Mail in Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010 The process for adding Yahoo Mail accounts to Outlook 2013 and Outlook 2010 are similar. The screenshots below illustrate the process in Outlook 2013. Screens in Outlook 2010 vary slightly, but the menus, options, and process are the same. Select File. Select Info, then choose Add Account. Choose Manual setup or additional server types, then select Next. In Outlook 2010, choose Manually configure server settings or additional server types. Choose Pop or IMAP, then select Next. In Outlook 2010, choose Internet E-mail. In the Server Information section, select the Account Type drop-down arrow and choose IMAP. In the User Information section, enter your name and your Yahoo email address. In the Server Information section, in the Incoming mail server text box, enter imap.mail.yahoo.com. In the Outgoing mail server (SMTP) text box, enter smtp.mail.yahoo.com. In the Login Information section, the User Name text box displays the user name from your Yahoo Mail address. Correct this information if necessary. Then, go to the Password text box and enter the app password you generated if your account uses two-step verification. Select More Settings. Go to the Outgoing Server tab, select the My outgoing server (SMTP) requires authentication check box, then choose Use same settings as my incoming mail server. Go to the Advanced tab. For both Incoming server (IMAP) and Outgoing server (SMTP), select the Use the following type of encrypted connection drop-down arrow and choose SSL. In the Incoming server (IMAP) text box, enter 993. In the Outgoing server (SMTP) text box, enter 465. Select OK to return to the Pop and IMAP Account Settings window. Select Next. This tests the account settings you entered. If everything is correct, both are completed successfully. Select Close. Your Yahoo Mail account is added to Outlook.
